I had a planned section with my surro-daughter in February (hospital policy) - but I found out that there is another hospital an additional 30 miles or so that will let me do a VBAC. I just can't decide if it's worth it.
What would you do?

IMO, life is better than not being alive, so I'd opt for the VBAC. How can elective major abdominal surgery be better? I have very strong opinions on the matter. My girlfriend cannot have anymore children because her uterus ruptured after 5 forced c-sections. She almost died.
Surgery unless medically necessary is never better. :(

hospital policy
Is that for the old addage "once a c-section, always a c-section"? By the way...around here, it's the OB's that get to decide, not the hospitals. Aren't there any supportive OB's in your county that know what's really best for a woman and newborn baby? I had to do some digging to find mine, by asking friends and calling local midwives in the area. Certainly someone knows someone who can help you.
I just wanted to wish you good luck! I am really glad you are thinking about standing up for yourself. Believe me, if we aren't strong and do it ourselves, no one will do it for us.

I assume with triplets c section with no choice right?? I had an abdominal surgery last summer. That's what I have been told.
If I had my choice I would try to do it all natural.

I would go for the VBAC. Your gonna be awful sore and take awhile to get over a c-section.

You always have a choice Deb. I planned natural when I carried the triplets, and my OB was in full support. I only had a planned c-sec in the end, because my IP's forced me into it.
Back when I carried those little guys, there had been several natural births of triplets at the hospitals in the greater Sacramento, CA area, and I spoke to a couple of the OB's that helped deliver them. They were really laid back about childbirth, and said they always did trial of labors with any of their multiple pregnancies.
I realize times have changed though. It's unfortunate. But if you believe in something, always stand up for yourself, because believe it or not, OB's are paid employees of ours, and they have to do what we want. :)

Yep that's exactly what it was. I didn't even know of the other hospital until another mother mentioned it and I looked it up and asked them about their VBAC policy and they emailed it to me. I was so happy (but had already given birth). This last section was far better than my first but I really don't want to go under the knife again if I can avoid it. I think I might just take the oppurtunity to go up there and talk to the Doctors about what they think about VBACs and it'll give me a chance to ask how they feel about surrogacy too.
Thanks ladies for all of your support.

Good idea. I've done plenty of that. :rofl
What they told me is that the medical studies that claim a c-section is "safer", did not take into consideration VBAC's done WITHOUT the aide of pitocin. Turns out, it's the pitocin that makes VBAC's dangerous, not the vaginal labor and birth. As we all know, pit drips intensify labor contractions, hitting the uterus (and baby) hard, causing undue stress on the previous c-sec scar. That is what the docs are scared of.
What they never tell you though, is that cutting & sewing, and cutting and sewing, and cutting and sewing, etc...ALSO puts undue stress on the uterus, causing the same dangers. I'd rather take my chances with mother nature. :)
