I know this is a silly question, But for those that have had a woman versus a male doctor was the treatment different?

The reason I ask is with my first pregnancy I seen a woman OB she was suppose to be one of the best I had heard good reviews on her. Come to find out she had 7 children and had them all at home. So she was anti-drugs during birth. I didn't find out until birth and OMG she let me suffer and had no compassion. She had the whole attitude that since she had hers at home all natural then everyother woman should labor drug free.

She let me lay there and push for hours with no help to try and help me get the baby out. My son came out with a huge cone head and was taken to the NICU for over a week because he was born not breathing.

I ended up tearing and she was stiching me up with out any numbing medicine I screamed it hurt so bad. My nurse on duty yelled at her and demanded she give me a shot down there while she was stiching me up.

Because of that one woman OB I have used Males every since. Just that one delivery traumatized me to never use a female again. I know they all aren't this way but it's funny what one bad experience can do to you.

My RE is a male but my OB is now a female. She has been through IVF herself with both her children. I find her very compassionate and caring.........Thank goodness.:) I am sorry you had such a horrible experience with the woman OB......she believed in natural child birth for everyone it sounds like. Not fair because everyone has different pain levels and tolerances. She almost sounds barbaric and there's no excuse for that:( Best of luck this time around:)

Well I usually prefer midwives over doctors any day of the week..but the midwives around here are scarce. You have to drive quite a ways to find one. So my current OB is a male. I had him with my last pregnancy (the twins). He was nice to me....pretty much let me run the show with my birthing plans. He knew it was important to me to have a VBAC, and he was fine with whomever I wanted in the delivery room. He's pretty laid back, which is good, because so am I. I will probably use him for my next pregnancy..although if I can find a midwife to see that's close, I will.

Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like she pushed birthing plans at all with you, which is really sad. I think most OB's are these days, aren't they? That is the time to talk about what YOU want during your pregnancy and birth. :)

I have a female OB and we love her! She really takes time to talk to us and at our last appt we just got done hearing the heartbeat and my IMs phone rang. If it had been my IF she was going to listen to the heartbeat again so IF could hear it. I have had a male OB before and he was in and out quick!

I prefer women midwives, but not doctors. Doctors in my personal opinion, have all been misled in medical school, so I don't trust any of them..male or female.

A midwife should give women all of their options, and help her to choose what is best for her. I probably would have loved your doctor, because I am also anti-drugs in labor, however, your doctor should have asked YOU what you wanted.

Don't doctors ask for birth plans anymore?????

I have a male OB for my last two births and then this one. He is wonderful and I trust him with my life. He is easy going, will speak up if there is a problem and lets you call the shots. He is very compassionate and caring.

i had two midwives at the hospital when i had aidan, one was a guy called norman, who flounced-yep-flounced into the room announcing he was the only gay midwife in the hospital and that if i wasnt happy for him to deliver me with female midwife=marcia, then i need to say now.
well they were the best i met in my time in that hospital,as with aidan it was all a bit of a rush.
i said from the start at my booking i wanted no drugs & as natural as it gets.
when i got to 39wks,there was still no sign of aidan coming into this world,so i was put on twice wkly apts.
i hit 42 wks,and on the weds they said i had to be induced-i was in a right flap of panic,i went back on the friday to book it all ready for he monday morning at 11am.
so i went to work fri night, sat night and sun night, ithere i was pulling a pint behind the bar sunday night/monday morning-when,gush my water went at 1.29am.
we got to the hospital at about 1.45am,and 1.58an aidan arrived all on his own.
they were both excellent, and treated me with so much care and compassion.
